Borrowly FAQ
Borrowly is a free iPhone app for tracking borrowed and lent items, and the money you lend. Here are answers to the questions people ask most.
What is Borrowly?
Borrowly is a free iPhone app for tracking borrowed and lent items, and money you lend. It’s on the App Store.
Is Borrowly available yet?
Yes. Borrowly is free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. Android is coming later.
Is it free?
Yes. Borrowly is free on the App Store, with in-app purchases.
Why not just use Apple Notes?
For a couple of items, Notes works fine. Borrowly is built for lending: snap a photo, choose the borrower from Contacts, keep a history, and get a reminder on your phone. You send any message yourself. See Borrowly vs Apple Notes.
Does the person who borrowed my stuff need to install Borrowly?
No. The borrower doesn’t need to install the app.
Does Borrowly send messages without my approval?
No. Borrowly reminds you on your phone. When you want to nudge someone, it opens a draft in Messages. The text goes out only when you tap Send.
Does Borrowly move money?
No. Borrowly is a personal record for items you lend or borrow, and for money you track yourself. It does not move money between people.
Can I track money as well as items?
Yes. Borrowly is for tracking things and money you lend or borrow, including balances and partial repayments.
How does Borrowly use my photos?
Item photos are stored with your loan record, on your device and in Borrowly’s cloud storage, so you can remember exactly what you lent. If you turn on AI recognition, a photo (or a compressed version) may be sent to Borrowly’s recognition service and processed by OpenAI to suggest item details. You can turn AI recognition off in Settings. Photos are not sold. See our Privacy Policy.
Which devices does it work on?

When will Android be available?
Android is not available yet. Join the Android waitlist on this page and we’ll email you.
Can I type a phone number instead of using Contacts?
Today you choose the borrower from Contacts. Typing a phone number directly, and improved phone verification, are coming next.
